Dark Matters

No doubt, a blog which discusses the defense of sex crimes will upset a few people. Just hearing that phrase associated with a news event makes almost everyone uptight and judgmental. Yet, when a story about such a crime appears in a newspaper, who would doubt the popularity of those stories? Our media trades on the conjecture which rises from a sex crime. It's the incendiary nature of these stories which sells papers, has eyeballs glued to monitors and to televisions. Like many people I seek out different sources for my news. Right, left, or center, however, it was hard to find any form of news media which did not enflame public outrage when Larry Craig pled gulity to disorderly conduct. I hope this blog will challenge readers&rsquo opinions about the stories which circulate around this charge. Moreover, my aim is to help readers make sense of the complex laws which govern a sex offense. Those laws have implications for everyone, not just those who have been accused of this crime. One final thought. It's the very unsettling nature of sex crimes which makes coping with this topic all the more vital. Anyone can act rational when the topic is abstract and philosophical. How many can grapple pragmatically with a topic which they find unsettling?
